Gübelin's studies on gemstone inclusions laid the groundwork for the microscopic identification of gemstones, he was one of the first gemologists to recognise the butterfly wing effect in Colombian emeralds, and used poetry to validate gemstones, as noted in the book 'Emeralds: A Passionate Guide.' Contains colour frontispiece, (ix)-iii, 221, (i) pp with 258 monochrome photographs throughout. Gilt titles dulled, else in Very Good clean condition, no dust wrapper. Member of the P.B.F.A.
