In 1965 a crew of eleven volunteers flew a worn out war-time Lancaster bomber from Sydney, Australia to Biggin Hill, England a distance of 12,000 miles, in order that the aircraft could take its place with other vintage aircraft in a British museum. It was, at that time, the last Lancaster remaining in flying condition. It was a flight fraught with both danger an near unsurmountable difficulties - capturing the imagination of the world in its amazing 21 day journey. Contains (xix)-1, 162 printed pages of text with monochrome archive photographs throughout. Rubbing along the bottom edges of the boards. Very Good condition book in Good condition dust wrapper with rubbing to the corners and spine ends, small closed tears to the top edge of the rear cover.
