Contains [xxiv] 376 printed pages of text. Memphis was believed to be under the protection of the god Ptah, the patron of craftsmen. Its great temple, Hut-ka-Ptah (meaning "Enclosure of the ka of Ptah"), was one of the most prominent structures in the city. The name of this temple, rendered in Greek as Ai-gy-ptos by the historian Manetho, is believed to be the etymological origin of the modern English name Egypt. Sun fading down the spine. Very Good condition book in original dust wrapper with the paper around the spine and inner front flap missing. From the private library of the author with his personal illustrated Zimbabwe [where he lived] bookplate to the front free end paper. SIGNED by the author inside the front cover 'To H. H.
