Mérimée, Prosper [Prosper Mérimée (28 September 1803 - 23 September 1870) was a French writer in the movement of Romanticism, and one of the pioneers of the novella]. Illustrated by René Bull (11 December 1872 - 14 March 1942) was a British illustrator and photographer. [Translated by A. E. Johnson]. Georges Bizet (25 October 1838 - 3 June 1875).

Mérimée is best known for this novella Carmen, which became the basis of Georges Bizet's opera Carmen. Contains [ix], 203 printed pages of text with with 16 intricate full-page colour plates with lettered paper guards, and 74 large monochrome illustrations throughout. Spine dulled, off-setting to the verso end papers and in Very Good clean and sound condition. Member of the P.B.F.A.

Hard back binding in publisher's original colour illustrated paper covered front board covers, dark green cloth spine, pale leaf green end papers. Oblong folio 12½'' x 10''. Ten superb full-page colour lithographic colour plates. End papers cracked, ten pages to the centre have worked loose from the metal pins, these have been repaired with tape along the inside edge, this has dried and been removed, but has left a thin brown shadow stain to the edge, corners rubbed, general shelf rubbing to the pale duck-egg paper to the lower cover. Member of the P.B.F.A.
