Ellis, Edward S. [Edward Sylvester Ellis (April 11, 1840 - June 20, 1916) was an American author who was born in Ohio and died at Cliff Island, Maine. A teacher, school administrator, journalist, and the author of hundreds of books and magazine articles that he produced by his name and by a number of noms de plume. Notable fiction stories by Ellis include The Steam Man of the Prairies and Seth Jones, or the Captives of the Frontier. Internationally, Edward S. Uniform matching hard back binding in publisher's original slate blue pebble cloth covers, gilt title, author lettering and volume detail to the spines, all page edges gilt, red silk tie, patterned end leaves. Quarto 10½'' x 7''. 7 [of 8] volumes with volume VII missing. This is the edition De Luxe limited to 500 copies of which this set is not numbered. Each volume has a double page colour frontispiece of an H. A. Ogden scene from the civil war. They are all illustrated with both paper guarded black & white drawings, maps, glossy plates and occasional full colour plates. The whole set is in Fine condition having probably never been opened or appreciated. Heavy set. Member of the P.B.F.A.
