Boisragon, Major Alan M. [Alan Maxwell Boisragon (22 January 1860 - 18 March 1922) was a British Army officer, and author, and was Captain Superintendent of the Shanghai Municipal Police from 1901 to 1906]. Frank John Williams (1931-2022) was an English actor best known for playing the Reverend Timothy Farthing in the BBC television sitcom Dad's Army (1969-1977). Illustrations by J. F. Campbell.

First edition hard back binding in publisher's original decorative pictorial light blue cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered back and front. Thick 8vo. 8'' x 5½''. Contains (iv) colour frontispiece, 320 pp plus 16 pp publisher's catalogue, with 6 further colour plates as called for throughout. Unusual (for the time) tipped-in note to the last leaf 'The further adventures of Jack Scarlett will be continued in another volume which will be issued in the Autumn of 1915, probably under the title of Jack Scarlett - Sub-Lieutenant'. From the private library and estate of Frank Williams. Ink message dated 1916 to the front free end paper, foxing to the end papers, war-time gilt for the spine mixed with aluminium and consequently has dulled, else in Good condition, no dust wrapper.
