Uniform matching original plain grey card wrap covers, hand written title in black ink to the light blue paper covered spines, page edges untrimmed. 8vo. 9'' x 5½''. Contains [viii] 205 [iv] 173; [vi] 200 [iv] 230 printed pages of French text. The famous memoirs of Madame Roland, recognized as one of the most remarkable autobiographies of the period of the Revolution. Marie-Jeanne 'Manon' Phlipon was married to the minister of the interior in the Girondist government Jean Marie Roland, and also on her own account a central figure in the Girondist party. She was arrested in May 1793 after the fall of the Girondists and executed in November the same year. Her memoirs were written during these five months of imprisonment, and posthumously published by her friend L. A. G. Bosc. Soilng to the covers and page edges, dusty end papers. Member of the P.B.F.A.
