First edition hard back binding in publisher's original quarter black morocco, deep blue cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back, top edge gilt, fore and lower page edges untrimmed, black, blue and white chevron end sheets. Quarto. 10¼'' x 8''. Hand written Number 1339 of 2000 Limited Edition copies. Published posthumously in 1955, it describes his time in the Royal Air Force, working, despite having held senior rank in the army (colonel), as an ordinary aircraftman, under an assumed name, 352087 A/c Ross. Contains red and black printed title, 206 pp divided into three parts: Part I: 'The Raw Material', with 29 chapters (many are 2 or 3 pages); Part II: 'In the Mill', with 22 chapters; Part III: 'Service', with 18 chapters. In Fine condition. Housed in Fine condition marble paper covered open-fronted slip case. Member of the P.B.F.A.
